VII GIANT PUMPKIN CONTEST at UEM

Wendy . Blog Shakespeare slept here! Publicado 02 Noviembre 2012

Could you grow a giant pumpkin from a little non-descript pumpkin seed?
Have you ever tried? Here are the results of the UEM Language Center's VII GIANT PUMPKIN CONTEST.

Growing giant pumpkins can be a challenge. Several members of the UEM community mangaged to get little plants started. Some saw their vines stretch out over several meters of land. Some had lovely yellow flowers and even little pumpkins. Few however managed to grow a big beautiful pumpkin this year. Here are some of our champions!

Vocabulary:

pumpkin: calabaza

seed: semilla

challenge: desafio

manage to: lograr, conseguir

vines: enredaderas

stretch out: extender, estirar

Wendy, we have to carve scary faces on them one year, as a Spaniard I've never done that and I'm sure it'd be a blast :)

I find very interesting the subject of giant pumpkins, as science has managed to achieve this breakthrough. In my opinion, we would have to assess whether they can be edible due to chemical substances that are added to achieve that size. Finally, I also think it would be more productive to use this time to find solutions to more serious illnesses.
