Use your English. Communicate !!

Wendy . Blog Publicado 25 Junio 2012

Iñigo Zaballa has been studying English with us in the UEM LAB (Language Center) since October 2010. He's a great fan of music in English and American films and series. His favorite series are "Friends" and "Perfect Strangers." He was in Sheffield, England for one summer when he was 11, and has been using his English ever since. He says,"Students should listen to music and try to practice their English more. Communicate with your English teachers. Practice your English. I didn't speak to the teachers much when I first came here, but now I talk with them a lot. I want to go to the United States, probably to Texas or Maryland so I'm perfecting my English. I recommend that all the students here put their English to use: not so many parties and more English! Don't speak with the English teachers in Spanish because maybe they don't understand. Use your English! I do! I've finished my English requirements for the law degree, and I did it in less than 2 years. I want to continue in the (UEM LAB) Language Center anyway. I don't want to stop studying English. I'm going to stay until I finish the university. i like it a lot."

Hey Iñigo -- I agree with you. I wish more students would take advantage of their love of music -- I study Spanish by looking up the lyrics to Spanish songs on the internet and listening and following along. That way I can kill two birds with one stone. And that's how I learned to say "Este fin de semana me dejó fatal..." hahahaha I would recommend Tracy Chapman, she sings in a very clear voice with interesting lyrics! Good luck, I hope you decide on Maryland! It's the best State!

Dear Wendy, I want to share some quotes to keep us all motivated about teaching and learning English! "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart." -Nelson Mandela "One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." ?Frank Smith "The limits of my language are the limits of my world" -Ludwig Wittgenstein "Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere" -Chinese Proverb "To have another language is to possess a second soul" -Charlemagne

Alicia, I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the USA. Studying at any age is great. If you're here on campus, come by to see me at the Language Center in Building A. There are degree programs for "mayores" de 25,40 y 45. Here's the link. http://www.uem.es/es/oferta-academica/mayores-de-25 Wendy
