New students everywhere !

Wendy . Blog Shakespeare slept here! Publicado 09 Octubre 2014

It's a new academic year and there are new people everywhere.

The typical questions: What do you study? Where are you from?

You'd assume that the great majority of students at a university in the Madrid area
would be from Madrid. Well, as we all get to know each other in class and around campus we quickly realize that many of us are from other provinces as well as from other countries. The hundreds of foreigners are recognizable because you hear them speaking English, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Portuguese, and Spanish with a Mexican, Peruvian, Cuban, Costa Rican etc accent. And the others? There are students from nearby Toledo and Segovia, and from all over Spain. Participants in the SPEED EXCHANGE activity during New Student WELCOME WEEK on October 1st were from Granada, Seville, Malaga, Zaragoza, Leon, Albacete, Murcia, Alicante, Gijón, Santander and Barcelona as well as the UK, the US, Italy, Cuba, Korea and China. What are they studying? Everything from Aerospace Engineering and Telecomunications to Audio-Visual Communications and Journalism, International Relations and Protocol, Dentistry and Medicine, Sports Science and Physiotherapy, Economics and Business Administration. Students from all the degree programs are studying English. When they participate in the Language Center Activities, they quickly get to know each other. And many are planning to spend a year in another country or preparing to become "Españoles por el Mundo."

I think it's a good opportunity the fact of traveling the world and learn about other people, it's an experience that helps you grow and mature. Discover new places and share some experiences with people who maybe would not have ever known. Bye

This university has students from all over the world, so you can hear many languages, but English is a very important language and the SPEED EXCHANGE is a really funny activity that allows you to learn it.

Hello everyone !! I have had the opportunity to participate in the activity and I have to say it has been a very positive experience. it was not as hard as it may seem. At first you may find it difficult to do, but suddenly you stop having that fear of making mistakes. It's a great chance to meet people from different places and practice speaking English that I recommend to everyone.

It would be funny to see our student in "Españoles por el mundo". Any way, I think like Jose Luis, it´s great chance to everybody. But the problem is that our student need talk with foreigners and it´s know that it´s easier will talk with people who talk in the same language.

Today, when I read "Students from all the degree programs are studying English", I think that we are a big chance to improve our english, because the more important thing to learn something is practice all time.We can learn together while get to know our students and colleagues!

Hello everyone! It is the first time that I comment on this blog and the truth is that it makes me a lot of illusion to be able to take part in it. I could not come to the activity that you realized because it was realized in schedule of classes and therefore it was busy. To continue with the comment i want to say that I study sports management a slightly common degree in Spain and I am in his second course. Sports management is totally different than CAFYD or TAFAD and I enjoying the degree a lot. I love it! Thanks for the attention and read you soon.

Hy!! It`s very suprising to know that the most of our students aren¨t from Madrid. I would like to have enough time to met them, talk to them and know their customs. I think it would be verty interesting. In class I haven´t time for doing it, perhaps this year I manage to go to some activitys, for knowing them better. I wish it. Bye

Speaking briefly in a different language to yours helps you speak more fluently , you also know people and make new friends.

Hey everyone! I had the opportunity of participating in this activity, and it was really funny and interesting. I met a lot of people, and at the same time I talked in English for a long time -tired, but satisfactory, I guess-. I love all the activities you do! Keep like this.

One of the most important things of this university is the diversity of cultures that we can find every two steps. In other universities in the world is not, or not so overdone, so it is a very important source of training resources for all people.

It´s a fantastic idea. I haven´t had the opportunity to participate in the activity but many people talked to me about this. It's a great chance to meet people from different places and practice speaking English that I recommend to everyone. In a lot of bars of Madrid are doing the same to meet many people and speak in english. I think that it is a very positive experience and you can learn a lot.

It's a great idea, because I'm from Asturias, and if I want new people from other countries or other parts of Spain I will use this opportunity. This idea is a fantastic way for learning new languages and we improve our english too.

In my opinion, this activity is a good idea to help new students to know people at the University and, at the same time, they can talk and hear other languages. It’s a fun way to welcome our students.
