IX GIANT PUMPKIN CONTEST October 2014- Once again the Language Center at UEM is sponsoring its GIANT PUMPKIN CONTEST. For the 9th year! Many of you planted the seeds from last year's pumpkins and spent the summer caring for your little seeds, plants, flowers and tiny pumpkins. Now we are awaiting the results. Did your plants make it through the summer? Did you water them and speak to them in English? "Come on Little Plant. Grow! " Please bring in your best Giant Pumpkins. It may not be the biggest this year, but it might be the most interesting/unusual/colorful/impressive.

Our all time champion is Mª Jose Fernandez from Admissions. Her GIANT PUMPKIN won in 2008. It weighed 53 kilos 800 grams and was grown right here in Villaviciosa.
Last year's biggest pumpkin was grown in Santa Maria del Prado, Soria and weighed in at 34 kilos 700 grams. My friends Jose Antonio and Sonia Cercadillo say they have another big one ready for this year.

This year, so far, I've received news that there are some big pumpkins coming in.
Verónica Gabaldón from Convalidations in the Health Scienes and Sports Schools
sent in a picture of her pumpkins in the field in Cuenca where her grandfather is taking care of them.
News Flash! Verónica's pumpkin is here. It's on display in the Main Hall Building B.

When I’ve read the announcement of the IX Giant Pumpkin Contest at UEM, I’ve remembered that the other day I read that in Huesca someone donated to Cáritas a pumpkin with 460 kilos of weight. They are going to share out the pumpkin between the beneficiaries of “Despensa Solidaria de San Francisco Javier”. It seems to be that pumpkin has won an international award in a competition like yours. I think that it is an interesting use to that great pumpkin. Good luck to the participants ¡¡

On Thursday 30th October, I was lucky to help Wendy to weigh the pumpkins that were submitted for the contest of Halloween. There was some of they that was heavy and needed to be transported by more than one person. On the other hand, other pumpkins did not stand by the weight, but they did it by color or shape. An exhibition worth seeing and I recommend anyone who has not seen it. An exhibition who worth seeing and that I recommend to everyone who has not seen it.

I saw that picture few days ago and I am really excited. That pumpkin is incredible. I do not understand how people can care of that manner a pumpkin. My grandfather grew but never get a big result. I am sure sure that the problem would be the seeds.

A idea for the next year is that we would borrow the stage of the university, and students give theirs opinions about the best horror film. And the winner we could reproduce it there. The students would pay only 1 euro for seeing the film y The money would be for people who need it.

I really admire the work you do! This type of activities are really funny, and give too much joy to our university. I love going to the B building, because everyday I find a new funny or interesting thing. Although I liked all your activities, my favorite was the Pumpkins activity. Keep doing things like that, you are doing a great job!

In gacilia, people that have a farm usually plant pumpkins without care, because the pumbkins in galicia grow up more easlily. When my father plant corn he plant seeds of pumpkins in corners of farm and he has good results.
