The year 2012 ? Interesting number, 2012. However you decide to say it, you have two "tw´s": Two thousand twelve.Twenty-twelve. tw-tw!

"Tw" is an unusual sound. "Happy 2012" 2012? "tw": twenty, twelve, two, twice, Twain, t'was. T'was? It was? Oh, of course. T'was...it was....The sounds reminded me first of an epic poem and then of an historical novel. Two (there's that "tw" again) famous first lines, lines I've said or read or heard over and over and over again.

What do you think of when you hear: "T'was the night... " Nothing particular? If you're an American you probably will say, " T´was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...." and continue on and on. You've heard it and read it and recited it all your life. Google it next Christmas time if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's the first line of a poem by Clement C. Moore, who introduced Santa Claus to the American public.

And then I thought, "T'was", "it was" and found myself reciting the first line of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light. it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us..." For the first few phrases you'll say " It was" , but soon you'll find yourself speeding up and saying "t'was".

And after all that, I'd like to wish you a HAPPY 2012!
