Wendy . Blog Shakespeare slept here! Publicado 26 Noviembre 2012

THANKSGIVING PIE TASTING FEAST and COOKING CONTEST.

37 desserts and several drinks were donated by UEM staff and students for the Language Center's 8th THANKSGIVING PIE TASTING FEAST. At 2 € a plate, 362,10€ were collected and will be contributed to AVINTE Volunteers.

. Which one do you think was the winner?
That's right, the Pumpkin Cake at the bottom of the photo.

And the best cooks? Clara Nordmann won first place with her Pumpkin Cake. 2nd place went to Conchita Jara with her Pastel de Queso y Uva con gelatina de Pedro Ximenes. David Folkers placed 3rd with his Fudge Brownies and Declan Mulcahy was 4th with Frambua Delight. 5th place was a 3-way tie: Victoria Bamond with Mint Milano, Pilar Saura with Lemon Pie and Isabel Garcia and Nieves Girón with Limoníssismo. There were, of course, several pumpkin and apple pies, cheesecakes and carrot cakes and brownies. Traditional Thanksgiving desserts shared the table with other favorites from the USA, England, Spain, Italy, Russia and Rumania. A big "THANKS" to everyone who brought in a dessert!

. Conchita, 2nd place
.And a special thanks to the STUDENTS who donated desserts and helped us throughout the sale: Anastasia, Denisa and Iñigo! And to all those who helped set the tables, organize the desserts, collect the money, clean up and count the votes. Without all of you, the 8th THANKSGIVING PIE TASTING FEAST wouldn't have been the success that it was. Thank you Aitor, Antonio, Azzees, Carlos, Cristina, Diana, Elena, Ignacio, Irene, Maria, Marian, Paula, Sergio, Uju, and Whitney and anyone else I've missed.

All of the cakes were out of this world but my piece of advice is to always save room for Wendy's.

Oohh!! It looks delicious! I was last year tasting it but this year was impossible to me. I wish I could be next year and I'll enjoy so sweet cakes.

My favorite american cake is the carrot cake! I love it! Have you ever taste it from the Gumbo restaurant in Madrid (http://www.gumbo.es/)?

!Delicious! This year I celebrated Thanksgiving day in New York with my daughter who is living there since september. She is a journalist and she has written an article for TRAVELER magazine about where to eat in NY in Thanksgiving

I think this initiative it´s a good thing in order to know a different culture, at the same time that you help people, collecting money with the sale of the cakes. Congratulations.
