I love to teach and I love to learn. Over the years I've created hundreds of fun activities that make learning easy. We tried them out over and over again in the hallways, in the garden, in the street and yes, even in the classroom. Many are posted on this blog, "Shakespeare slept here." Many of you may have participated in them.
I've always been both a teacher and a student in San Francisco, in Mexico and in Madrid. I was an English teacher at UEM for 18+ years. Now I'm happily retired and on to the next adventure.

When was the last time you sat down on a bench to read a book. You blocked out the world around you. Noise it not reach you, not even the traffic or people walking by. You were immersed in another time and place. Ah, yes....I remember.

You've decided to go to New York. Unless you're planning to swim or take a cruise ship, the best way to get there is by plane. You can take a direct flight, Mad-JFK, or go via another European city. You'll check out the rates for all the airlines, select your dates and book your flights. Iberia, Delta, Air Europa, American, British, Air France? Which one will be the cheapest? Which one will be non-stop?

A challenge! Do you have a hard time showing your feelings? Try writing them down!
We asked our staff and students to write a poem, a love letter, a valentine,
and this is the result. Rather than putting them up in the Language Center
as we did last year, we put them up on bulletin boards near the café, on the 2nd floor
Building A.

Juan Vázquez Menlle, Presidente de la Federación Madrileña de Deportes para Discapacitados Intelectuales y Profesor de Actividad Física Adaptada de UEM was here to show us what it is like to be blind and how to be a guide for a blind person. He's collaborated with me in this activity at the LANGUAGE CENTER for 4 years now, and passers-by always stop to see what's going on.

VISITING PLACES IN SPAIN.

Most tourists in Spain head for beaches in the summer or for big cities with their famous museums and historical monuments. They learn some history, drink some good wine, meet a few of the people who cater to tourists and go home. That's fine, but... but there's a lot more to Spain. They need to explore castles on hilltops and ruins still being unearthed. And so do you. It's good for the soul.
