Make new friends... September Intensive course

Wendy . Blog Shakespeare slept here! Published 04 September 2013

There are a lot of new students on campus this week and most of them are far from home, possibly for the first time. They're taking intensive language courses in English and/or Spanish, getting a head-start before the first trimester begins. They also come to our English Activities which are great because everyone has to use English to communicate. No excuses. For some it is a challenge, for others it's no problem at all. .

.Either way, they have a chance to make new friends very quickly. I hear they are already planning parties and trips for the weekend.

Sometimes I see someone alone or even 2 or 3 in a group, checking email and facebook or texting friends back home. Oh, " I miss my friends and my family " Yes, of course you do, but you can make a lot of new friends if you just make a little effort, or come to the English Activities. Look at the photos. Reach your own conclusions.

The old camp song in the US comes to mind during these first days of September:

"Make new friends, but keep the old

one is silver and the other gold."

Vocabulary:

challenge: desafio

have a chance: tener la oportunidad

reach a conclusion: llegar a una conclusión

Hope to see you in some of the activities! -Wendy

Whoa! What lovely pictures! It's great seeing so many happy faces after having enjoyed Wendy's activities. I loved joining today's University Reporters and seeing everybody interacting and having so much fun while meeting new people, making new friends and practicing their English! I encourage you to continue coming and participating as I believe it is the best way to start off to a great school year. :-) I hope to see you all in the next one! Leticia
