Good spelling is important. When a person reads some kind of document and sees how that text is written, it can really affect the reader´s opinion of both the writer and the message. Unfortunately, when a reader sees a spelling mistake in a blog entry, email reply, cover letter/resume, business letter, job application, etc. they start questioning the credibility of the writer. As a result, a spelling mistake can create a negative first impression. If you definitely want someone to take your writing seriously, you should spell correctly, because "it does make a difference".
